Our mission is to strengthen democratic discourse by ensuring that constitutional protections for free expression are matched by cultural and institutional conditions that encourage open, responsible, and fearless participation in public debate.
Independence and Nonpartisanship
The Institute for Democratic Discourse is a nonpartisan and independent research and advocacy nonprofit. We do not align with, endorse, or oppose any political party, candidate, or government.
Our work is guided by principles, evidence, and intellectual integrity—not by political or financial interests. To safeguard our independence, we do not accept donations or funding that would compromise our ability to conduct research, analysis, or public engagement freely and impartially.
We also do not accept foreign government funding or foreign political contributions. Our funding comes from individuals and domestic sources within the United States who support open inquiry, pluralism, and democratic discourse, without conditions attached.
Maintaining independence is essential to our mission and to the trust placed in us by the public.
